Jasmin Katz's Research

I am hoping to get a better understanding of the factors underlying depressed emerging adults’ maladaptive drinking patterns.

Specifically, I am looking into the roles of negative affect and interpersonal stressors as potential mediators in the relationship between depression and hazardous alcohol use among emerging adults. For example, depressed emerging adults often report drinking more on days in which their mood/affect is particularly low.

Interpersonal stressors have also been found to contribute to maladaptive drinking behaviour, especially among emerging adults, a population in which interpersonal interactions are particularly formative.
